Five Signs You are Blocked to Receiving Abundance
If you’re reading this during the first week of March, I want you to pay close attention because the time is here to shift your relationship with receiving—specifically, receiving money.
I lovingly call this month March-ing with Money because March has always carried a powerful energy for financial expansion year after year for me and my clients!
Here’s the reality: no matter how much you want money, abundance, love, or support, you might be subconsciously rejecting it.
If receiving doesn’t feel safe for you—if deep down, you believe there’s always a trade-off, a sacrifice, or a catch—you’re unconsciously pushing it away. And the universe? It listens. If abundance doesn’t feel good to you, it won’t flow to you.
So, let’s break free from the patterns that block your manifestations. Below are five key signs that you may have a wounded relationship with receiving.
1. Deflecting Compliments and Gifts
How do you react when someone gives you a genuine compliment or a thoughtful gift? Do you:
- Feel awkward and try to downplay it?
- Brush it off instead of simply saying “thank you”?
- Experience guilt, shame, or a sense of obligation?
True receiving means letting abundance in without resistance—whether it’s a kind word, a gift, or a financial blessing. If compliments and gifts make you uncomfortable, it’s a sign you don’t fully trust receiving.
2. Feeling Pressure or Indebted When Given Money or Support
Imagine receiving an unexpected financial windfall—an inheritance, a bonus, or a generous gift. While part of you feels happy, do you also feel:
- Like you now “owe” something in return?
- Pressure to prove you’re worthy of the gift?
- A lingering fear that something terrible will follow?
If receiving makes you feel burdened rather than joyful, it signals a more profound belief that money and abundance come with strings attached. It’s time to shift that story.
3. Overworking and Overgiving
Many of us learned in childhood that love and rewards must be earned—we must overwork, overgive, and exhaust ourselves to be worthy of receiving. This pattern can look like:
- Constantly working long hours to justify financial success.
- Feeling like you must suffer before money can come.
- Struggling to accept ease and flow in wealth creation.
If receiving is tied to struggle and sacrifice in your mind, you may unknowingly reject money and opportunities to avoid burnout. But abundance does not require suffering.
4. Self-Sabotaging Money and Business Growth
Do you procrastinate on income-generating activities? Get lost in perfectionism? Avoid taking the next step in your business or career? These behaviors—often rooted in fear—can show up as:
- Overthinking and freezing in overwhelm.
- Feeling confused and unsure of where to start.
- Postponing decisions that could bring more money or success.
These patterns send a subconscious message: “I can’t handle receiving more.” But the truth is, you can. It starts with trusting yourself to hold greater abundance.
5. Avoiding Asking for Help or What You Want
If you struggle to ask for:
- A raise at work.
- Support from a friend or partner.
- Simple things like a hug or a favor.
It may be because asking feels too vulnerable. If you weren’t given what you needed in childhood, you may have learned to deny your needs rather than risk rejection.
The universe responds to clarity. When you ask, you open the door to receive.
